Description:

This event is a unique opportunity for students to communicate with administration about policies affecting them. Most of the budget for this event is anticipated to be spent on advertising so that we achieve student attendance satisfactory to the panel discussion and the informational intent of the program.

The core component of the programming this year is a series of forums entitled GT Talks. The next natural step of GT Listens, GT Talks will be an opportunity for students to ask questions and voice their concerns before panels of carefully selected faculty, staff, and administrators. In order to guide the selection of the forum themes, a Skiles campaign was conducted in Fall of 2008 where a simple question was posed: "If you could feasibly improve one thing on this campus, what would it be?" Students were encouraged to post their comments on display boards with the goal of generating substantial feedback that was conducive to relevant campus dialogue. The GT Talks forums will stem from this feedback. The Skiles campaign, which took place on October 30th and 31st, successfully collected over 300 comments.

These two events will take place on February 25th and March 4th in the Student Center Theater from 12pm-130pm.

Tech Beautification Day was started in 1998 and has become Georgia Tech'slargest on-campus service event. On this day, students can give back to their campus through cleanup, landscaping, and immersing themselves in their community. The twelfth annual Tech Beautification Day, April 4, 2009, seeks to bring together students, faculty, alumni and staff to make positive environmental changes on the campus where they live, work, and study. All participants receive breakfast, lunch, and a t-shirt. We expect around 1000 students. Due to the expected increase in participation, we have been working with IFC and CPC to clean up the Greek area of campus on top of all of our other projects.

The AIAS is an independent, 501c(3) non-profit and student-run organization that is more than just a club. This grassroots association is a cooperative between thousands of students in North America (of all ages and academic degrees) committed to helping each other. It provides a sense of community and a forum to share differing views. The AIAS is also a professional organization that is the official voice of architecture students.

Each year, the Quads host conferences in the fall and spring. They are hosted by an AIAS chapter in the region and the themes vary. The conferences are a terrific way to meet other students in your region, to learn about architecture outside of the classrooms and have a lot of fun.

The AIAS South Quad Conference is being held in Atlanta, GA March 5-8 2009 and is co-hosted by Southern Polytechnic State University and Georgia Institute of Technology.

The African American Student Union (AASU) is planning their 6th Annual Black Leadership Conference, which will take place on February 20-23, 2009. This event is the flagship event of the Organization. The BLC helps develop student leaders to not only impact their campus, but their community. The conference has dynamic speakers and workshops to help galvanize students on campus to leadership roles, and also to raise awareness of issues that are facing the Black Community. This year the organization seeks to increase the impact of the event by inviting all GT students registered and unregistered for the conference to a final keynote address at the Ferst Center by Dr. Cornell West. Please note that this 2008 Conference, will be not only the 5th Annual BLC, but will also mark the 40th anniversary of AASU. For this reason, attendance is expected to be the highest the conference has ever seen.
